Eric Nystrom and rookie Alex Chiasson scored first-period goals as hosts Dallas held on to extend their winning streak to five games.

Richard Bachman turned aside 31 shots for the Stars, who climbed into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Dallas have won all three meetings between the Pacific Division rivals, with the final matchup taking place on April 23 in San Jose.

Tyler Bozak, Leo Komarov and captain Dion Phaneuf also scored and James Reimer made 36 saves for the Maple Leafs, who climbed within four points of Boston for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Rangers 1, Islanders 0

Defenseman Dan Girardi buried a wrist shot 3:11 into overtime and Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves en route to his first shutout of the season as the Rangers edged the Islanders to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Hurricanes 4, Bruins 2

Defenseman Joe Corvo burned his former team by scoring a power-play goal to snap a tie 9:36 into the third period as hosts Carolina posted just their second win in 16 outings (2-13-1) and denied Boston’s bid to clinch a post-season berth.

Capitals 6, Lightning 5

Defenseman Mike Green scored from the slot on the power play 2:59 into overtime as hosts Washington won their seventh consecutive game despite squandering a four-goal lead. Captain Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 27th goal and added an assist as the Capitals pushed their lead in the Southeast Division.

Sabres 1, Flyers 0

Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves for his third career shutout as hosts Buffalo blanked Philadelphia to inch closer to contention in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff scored the lone goal off an odd bounce 17 seconds into the third period.

Avalanche 4, Canucks 3

Defenseman Jan Hejda scored his first goal with 7.6 seconds left in regulation and Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 24 shots for his 250th career victory as hosts Colorado snapped a 10-game winless streak at the hands of Vancouver.

Blue Jackets 3, Wild 2

Mark Letestu scored the decisive goal in the shootout and Sergei Bobrovsky made 39 saves before stopping two in the bonus format to lift visiting Columbus over Minnesota. Letestu went high with a wrist shot to score in the first round and Cam Atkinson went low past the left skate of Niklas Backstrom (20 saves) in the second to clinch the win for the Blue Jackets.

Kings 2, Ducks 1

Mike Richards scored a power-play goal with 58 seconds remaining in the second period to snap a tie and help extend Los Angeles’ home winning streak to five games.
