Focus on a healthy future at annual QU-HMC event
Encouraging young people to consider a career as a health professional was the aim of the second annual health exhibition, “Our health, our future”, organised by Qatar University (QU)’s health clinic and the Health Professions Awareness Committee of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). |
The two-day event that concluded on Thursday involved 22 organisations representing all areas of health and social well-being in Qatar, including departments from HMC, Ministry of Interior, Primary Health Care Corporation, health institutions and companies and civic organisations.
QU’s College of Pharmacy, health science department (including its human nutrition and biomedical programmes), sports and recreation department, health clinic, physiotherapy unit, Early Childhood Center, special needs department and admissions department were also represented.
QU students worked as volunteers, welcoming visitors and assisting in tours of the university. Students and visitors toured the booths in the women’s science building, finding out about potential education, training and careers from each of the organisations. Health professionals were also on hand to give information and advice on healthy living. Pupils from Dukhan, Al-Bayan, Roqaia, Aresalah and Alyarmouk schools attended the event, along with around 300 students from Community College of Qatar, to find out more about potential career opportunities in the health sector.
Associate vice-president of QU and chief academic officer (faculty affairs) Dr Khalid al-Ali opened the event, alongside Dr Mohamed al-Thani, director of the public health department, Supreme Council of Health.
Also present were QU’s vice-president (administration and chief financial officer) Dr Homaid al-Madfa, QU medical clinic director Dr Hafsa Hashad and HMC representatives.
QU president Prof Sheikha al-Misnad, who attended the event, said: “This important exhibition brings together many of Qatar’s health-related organisations under one roof, raising awareness about the importance of healthy living while also promoting the expanding range of education and career opportunities for health professionals in Qatar. It is an excellent opportunity for QU students to find out more and make informed decisions about their future. We are grateful to HMC and other partners for their support.”
Dr al-Ali said, “The country’s healthcare system is developing with the highest standards of international practice in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. As it grows, we need world-class professionals. This exhibition gives pupils and students the opportunity to talk to the current experts and find out how they can play an important part in the transformation of Qatar’s healthcare sector, which will benefit the wider region.”
