Teenager shot dead in clash of gangs

A teenager has been shot dead in a suspected gang clash in north London.

The 19-year-old victim, who has not been named, was gunned down after an argument between two groups in the street on Monday night.

A witness described how a woman desperately fought to save the teenager’s life after the shooting in Lower Edmonton.

The woman said: “I heard two really loud bangs. I thought it was fireworks. Then I looked out the window.

“A man was on the ground and a woman was pumping his chest to try to resuscitate him. She looked like she knew what she was doing. The woman was in her twenties and was silent as she tried to save him. She was a hero.

“Then the police arrived and also helped. It was very scary.

“There have been two other killings in the area in recent years. It is very dangerous here.”

The shooting in Bounces Road is close to where 15-year-old Negus McLean was stabbed to death in April 2011.

Resident Alexandra Koohi, 21, said: “I was at home and I heard shouting and screaming from outside the kebab shop round the corner.

“There were two groups arguing. Then an hour later I heard two shots. I looked outside and there was a man lying on the floor. There was a lot of blood and one of the neighbours was trying to revive him. It looked like he had been shot in the chest. I took scissors so we could cut his clothes.

“I saw three guys run off. The guy on the floor did not seem to have had a weapon.”

Forensic science officers were still at the scene yesterday hunting for clues. The area was taped off as officers carried out house-to-house enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses and there have been no arrests.
