Oleg Engachev won gold in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event with a total of 195.1 at the HH The Emir Cup Shooting Championships at the Qatar shooting and Archery Federation range in Losail.

Engachev was given a tough fight by Konstantin Malsev but the latter’s second last shot of 8.7 proved costly and he had to settle for the silver with a total of 194.7. The bronze medal was bagged by Murshid Ali Hasan with a total of 173.2.  Aziz Mohamed Rakhimov had topped the qualifying round with a total of 572 but he lost his way in the finals and had to be content with the fourth place with a forgettable score of 153.7.

Oleg also shot exceptionally well in the qualifying rounds and after six rounds he was second with a score of 568. Here, Konstantin was fourth with a score of 556.

There was dejection for Salem Saeed al-Marri, who had finished the qualification in third spot with a total of 565. Al-Marri also failed to hold his nerve in the final and eventually finished fifth with a low score of 130.1.

The results give a clear indication that the shooters are clearly bearing the brunt of a new rule which doesn’t allow them to not carry the scores of the qualifying rounds into the finals.

In the women’s 10m Air Pistol final, Nasra Mohamed Mahmoud accumulated a score of 185.5 to clinch gold. The silver was pocketed by Salma Abbas Johar with a score of 185, while Dana Saad Al-Mubarak claimed bronze.

Mahmoud had also qualified for the finals at the top with a total of 396 after four rounds of (93, 91, 90, 95). Johar was eighth after the qualifying round with a total of 349 but she made the most of the new rules and put up a stunning performance to clinch sliver.
