The Sri Lankan Community Benevolent Fund in Qatar has donated air tickets to repatriate 16 community members held at the detention centre.Sri Lankan Ambassador Jayantha Palipana received the tickets from an SLCBF delegation led by president George P G Bandula.Minister and deputy chief of mission Sithara Khan, Sri Lankan Labour Bureau deputy general manager Wanasekara, SLCBF vice president Tennisan de Silva, secretary Dhammika Jayasena, adviser Lalith Jayasekara and committee member Roshan Balasooriya were present.“SLCBF executive committee decided prior to this year’s Sri Lankan Bakmaha Ulelea (New Year) celebrations, held on April 13, that all proceeds from the food stall and contributions from well-wishers would be utilised to help stranded community members to return home,” Bandula said.National carrier Sri Lankan Airline also supported the initiative by giving tickets at a special rate.
