United Bank (UBL) has opened a branch in West Bay, which will also house its first priority banking unit.The branch was inaugurated by Qatar Central Bank Deputy Governor Sheikh Fahad bin Faisal al-Thani in the presence of UBL President and CEO Atif R Bokhari and head of International Wajahat Husain and other senior executives.The new branch is located in a business and financial hub of Doha. Besides the usual retail and commercial banking products, it also offers safe deposit lockers.UBL Qatar’s first priority bank unit will also be operated from this branch. The branch, opposite City Center, is ensconced between the towers of Ministry of Culture and Qatar Central Bank training centre.Privatised in October 2002, the bank is majority owned by a consortium of the Abu Dhabi Group and Bestway Group of UK. HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak al-Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE, is the chairman and Mohamed Anwar Pervez is the deputy chairman of the bank.Over the last 52 years, the bank’s global network has grown to over 1,200 branches, representative offices, subsidiaries and associate companies across the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, USA, UK, China, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and Pakistan.
