Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar Sarfraz A Khanzada has been promoted to Grade 21 in the country’s Foreign Service structure. Had he been in Pakistan, he would have been an additional foreign secretary. However, since he is posted abroad, he will continue to be an ambassador by designation. Ambassador Khanzada’s term in Qatar is expected to end in a few weeks after he received his transfer orders for Sudan. Born on February 2, 1955, the ambassador holds a bachelor’s degree and post graduate diploma from National Defence University. He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan on October 18, 1984. Khanzada has held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistani missions abroad, including in Doha (1987 – 1990), Ottawa (1994 - 97), Bahrain (1997 – 1998), Lagos (1998 – 2001) and Canberra (2003 – 2006). He also served as minister/deputy head of mission at Pakistan embassy in Riyadh (2006 – 2009).
