ExxonMobil hails the ‘best of our industry’

Global energy major ExxonMobil joined Gulf Intelligence in instituting the ‘The Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah International Energy Awards”, which were launched at a special event in Doha last night. Addressing the event, Bart Cahir, president and general manager of ExxonMobil Qatar, said it was a privilege to be part of the celebration of achievement in honour of HE al-Attiyah, one of the transformational leaders in the history of the energy industry. Cahir said: “During his tenure as Minister of Energy and Industry, Qatar emerged as the leading supplier of liquefied natural gas, strengthening energy security in nations around the world. Al-Attiyah contributed significantly to the vision of HH the Emir and continues to play a key role to bring progress and prosperity to Qatar. “HH the Emir and HE al-Attiyah wisely understood long ago that Qatar’s greatest natural assets lie not only in its energy resources, but in its people. To this end, they have committed themselves and the nation to the development of the talents and capabilities of Qataris by maximising the value of Qatar’s immense natural gas reserves and investing the proceeds in building a modern economy. “At ExxonMobil we are especially proud of our decades-long partnership with HE al-Attiyah and Qatar - and our role in helping develop the country’s energy resources.” Cahir said: “Tonight, as our industry gathers for the historic first annual Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah International Energy Awards, we are doing so in a spirit of achievement.  This occasion is not just a tribute to HE al-Attiyah, it is in recognition of men and women who have similarly made individual contributions to a global industry and in the process have developed people and improved nations. “Tonight, we are celebrating a lifetime of achievement for five individuals who have dedicated their careers to the advancement of the industry. These recipients have helped develop the robust industry Qatar enjoys today; they have helped define international organisations; they have encouraged the exchange of information and transparency through reporting; they have established rigorous training and educational programmes in the region; and they have put their faith in the next generation of engineers – mentoring and encouraging tomorrow’s energy leaders. “I can think of no better way to celebrate the legacy of His Excellency than by continuing to do what he has done his entire career – recognising and celebrating the best of our industry – our past and our future.”
