Kahramaa holds events on World Water Day

Qatar Minister for Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada said the country’s participation in World Water Day celebrations on March 3 is to demonstrate its commitment to preserving dwindling water resources and also to bolster the integration of the Arab world’s development plans related to water resources and food security.The minister was speaking during World Water Day celebrations held on Sunday.The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) marked the day with a number of events. The Arab Water Ministerial Council organises Arab Water Day to highlight the issue of water security as part of attainment of sustainable development in the region.While thanking HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani for forming the Permanent Water Resources Committee (PWRC) to develop Qatar’s strategy on using its water sector effectively and in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016, al-Sada said such decisions would go a long way in preserving the nation’s invaluable water resources.The PWRC recommends policies and legislation to achieve water security and sustainable development of the water sector. The minister also lauded HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Heir Apparent of Qatar for his patronage of the national campaign for conservation and efficient use of water and electricity.Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari called upon residents to save water for the coming generations. “We seize the opportunity to reiterate Kahramaa’s commitment to its mission that calls for the provision of affordable and high quality electricity and water services for customers as per the highest international standards”.The per capita water consumption in Qatar is the highest in world. It was 216 cubic metres in 2012. “Hence, I call on all nationals and expatiates to save water for the coming generations,” he said.Kahramaa organised two-day exhibitions which concluded yesterday at The Landmark and Villaggio. A large number of the country’s residents, senior government functionaries and other  dignitaries including Arab League’s Secretary General, Nabil Elarabi visited the exhibition.
