Palladium Group, a global strategy execution consulting firm, recently hosted Harvard Baker Foundation professor and co-founder of the Balance Scorecard and Activity-Based Costing, Robert Kaplan, on a two-day visit to Doha. On his first visit to Qatar, Kaplan interacted with more than 40 government and business leaders, where Palladium managing director Joan Cabezas announced the establishment of a new office for Palladium Group in Doha to provide the country with a professional and dedicated team focused solely on the needs of the Qatari market. Kaplan said that he was impressed by Qatar’s national vision, while he feels that “still the main challenge is implementing the strategy and aligning all institutions towards achieving it”. In this context, he considered that the country has a great opportunity to use the financial benefits from non-renewable resources to build a sustainable future based on knowledge and information. The professor, who is considered as one of the top twenty-five business thinkers in the world, explained that there is an emerging management trend in the region characterised by the development of strategy maps - a tool that was co-founded by him, and by “the paradigm shift in the risk management system after the financial crises”. He concluded that “every institution will have to create value to the community to succeed nowadays, and not just financial returns to the shareholders”.
