Barwa City, one of the major urban real estate communities in Qatar, is receiving new tenants at its residential units allocated to government employees, as per agreements signed earlier between Barwa City and several governmental bodies, said Barwa Real Estate Co.Barwa City is an iconic real estate project in Mesaimeer and a smart city, with a capacity to accommodate about 25,000 residents. It offers modern homes in contemporary living spaces and a self-sufficient community, aiming to meet the different demands and needs of tenants living there.Barwa Real Estate Co launched Barwa City in May last year. The development is spread over a construction area of 2.7mn sq m. The project offers 200,000sq m of green spaces, 128 residential buildings for tenants and investors and 6,000 residential units built according to international standards. The city provides fully furnished residential units upon request. The QR7.3bn development was completed in two phases. The phase 1 of the project was handed over during the second half of last year. This evolved around building residential units and establishing infrastructure and services such as district cooling plants which provide centralised air-conditioning and district cooling system. Moreover, the optical fibre broadband network is now covering Barwa City. This will enable Barwa to offer a range of telecommunications and Internet services to its tenants. The project is designed with a central metre reading system for electricity, water and gas to enable collecting the readings remotely without disturbing the tenants. The phase 2 is scheduled for completion in May. This phase includes establishing schools for 4,000 students, nurseries, bank, commercial units, a health club and a multi-purpose hall.Barwa Real Estate Co is expected to accomplish full occupancy in Barwa City this year. Activating work on mega projects derived from the Qatar National Vision 2030 and hosting World Cup 2022 will create an attraction for international businesses to operate in Qatar and to take part in this economic evolution. Those factors will eventually have great impact on increasing the demand for residential units in the country.
