A time to strengthen social bonds

Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) yesterday celebrated the country’s National Sport Day by organising various sport activities with the active participation of employees, their families and other Mesaieed residents. “Believing in our wise government’s vision to promote the role of sports as an integral part of lifestyle, Qafco has organised a busy sport programme that includes a number of integrated sport activities,” Hamed al-Marwani, chief administration officer, Qafco and chairman of the organising committee of the Sport Day celebrations said. In addition, it organised various social and entertainment activities in which the company employees and their family members participated to encourage physical exercise as a healthy behaviour to strengthen social bonds between company employees and their families. The National Sport Day celebrations at Qafco started early morning yesterday at the premises of the company’s clubs, Al Banush and Al Maha. The activities included competitions in football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, handball and squash, in addition to child sports and entertainment games in sheltered and safe places. Participants were later honoured with special gift items and awards. Qafco sport activities are not strictly confined to the company employees, but extend further to organising matches with sports teams of the neighbouring companies and with residents of Mesaieed Industrial City, regardless of their professional sectors and affiliations, al-Marwani said. Qafco Open Tennis Championship is one of the country’s renowned annual competitions organised by Qafco under the auspices of the Qatar Tennis Federation.
