Triple musical treat at Valentine’s Sweet Rock 2013 concert
By Joey Aguilar/Staff ReporterHundreds of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) took a break from a week of hard work and flocked to Al Ahli Stadium in Doha to watch the Valentine’s Sweet Rock 2013 concert. As many as three bands entertained the gathering at the venue. These were Pupil headed by Ely Buendia, the all-women band General Luna and Asiano, which comprised local musicians. The audience, mostly young professionals, cheered for their favourite numbers and stayed put till General Luna performed the last song.The two popular bands praised Asiano and its vocalist, JP De Leon, for an “excellent performance”. “They are good and we hope to be here again for another concert,” said Nicole Asensio, General Luna’s lead singer.The lady musicians were seen clicking photographs of the crowd with their smartphones even while performing on stage. “We will post these photos on our Facebook fan page,” said Nicole. Ely, a songwriter and former Eraserheads vocalist, said he loves to give OFWs a mega treat in his performances abroad. His last song for the night was Pare ko, an original composition. “We love Ely! He is our inspiration and I hope he will perform here every year,” said a group of OFWs.For lovers and couples, “it was a date, a night of Filipino music and wholesome entertainment”, said a visitor. Valentine’s Sweet Rock 2013 is a concert for a cause, which aims to help poor children and distressed OFWs at the Philippine Overseas Labour Office. The proceeds will go to charity institutions such as ABS-CBN: Bantay Bata 163.
