Wrestling superstars set to take Doha by storm

By Salman Siddiqui/Staff ReporterWWE superstars such as R-Truth, John Cena, Kane, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder are coming to Doha as part of the Raw World Tour. The event will be held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on February 21-22, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) announced yesterday.This will be the second outing of the hugely popular WWE - or World Wrestling Entertainment - in Qatar, QTA officials told mediapersons at a briefing.R-Truth, who is in Qatar for the second time to participate in the event, came dancing onto the podium in his trademark style to the tune of his signature music in the background. “We are here to promote WWE in Qatar…I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with the event,” Truth said. The wrestling superstar said he had fully recovered from his injury and was given the clearance by his doctors a week ago. “I’m always prepared, I’m ready to fight right on,” he said when asked whether he was ready for the event.Earlier, QTA’s head of events, Hamad al-Khaja, said he was pleased to bring a global entertainment event of this scale to Qatar. “Popular international sport and entertainment events like this are important for Qatar, which is why QTA is sponsoring WWE,” he explained. The WWE shows are broadcast in over 145 countries and reach out to more than 500 million homes worldwide.OWMNYA Holding’s Muneer Sheikh said the event “will be bigger and better than ever”.This will be the second time that an WWE event will be held in Qatar and the third time in the Middle East. It has been held once in Egypt.Creative Design, a Qatar-headquartered group of companies, along with its event management division OWMNYA Holding is the other sponsor of the event.
