Total Qatar National Jr Youth Tournament concludes

The closing ceremony for the Total Qatar National Junior 2013 Youth Tournament took place at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex on February 5.

The tournament began on February 1 in partnership with Total, a leader in supporting tennis and community initiatives here in Qatar. The Qatar Tennis Federation took pride in hosting one of the few youth events in the country, aiming to enhance Qatar tennis and put young Qatari players on the competition track in order to improve their skills and potentials.

55 boys and girls participated in this five-day long event in different categories including Under 8s, Under 9s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s, and Under 18s. Saad al-Mohannadi, Tournament Director for the upcoming Qatar Total Open, said, “The final match saw the best players in this tournament competing brutally, showing all their abilities and potentials, they really added an exciting and competitive element to this tournament. Qatar is so proud to have such valuable talents who can enhance Qatar’s role not only in local events but also regional and international ones.”

Stephane Michel, Managing Director of Total E&P Qatar said, “This tournament was a great success for all players to participate. Total is proud of sponsoring this tournament and to be more and more involved in community initiatives by supporting this event. This is a great opportunity for the Qatari youth to showcase their talents and skills during one week of great tennis. The future of Qatar tennis was on display during this event and the Qatar Tennis Federation takes pride in growing the game and creating the stars of tomorrow. Presenting the award to the champions of the Total Qatar National Junior tournament is truly one of the highlights of our partnership with the Qatar Tennis Federation. We are also looking forward to the WTA Qatar Total Open that will take place next week with the best players of the world playing in Doha. I am sure that the young Qatari players will enjoy such a big tournament.”

The Qatar Tennis Federation believes that this kind of event helps produce future tennis stars who will be able to compete in both local and international tournaments, continuing Qatar’s growth on the international sporting stage.

The winners were: Nasser al-Yazidi (Boys 8); Abdulaziz Tarek (Boys 9); Ibrahim al-Sulaiti (Boys 10); Rayan Jufairi (Boys 12); Hamad Mohannadi (Boys 14); Abdallah al-Jufairi (Boys 18); Amna Hamud (Girls 10); Mubaraka Alnaimi (Girls 14); Ibrahim Sulaiti and Jassem al-Mahmoud (Boys Doubles 10); Hamad Mohannadi and Mubarak Sulaiti (Boys Doubles 14); and Jassim Zeyara and Abdullah Shanan (Boys Doubles 18).
