Protest over mining firm closure

Filipino mining workers shout slogans outside the Mining and Geosciences Bureau in Quezon City, east of Manila, Philippines yesterday. Workers and residents of a mining community from the northern Philippine province of Benguet called on the government bureau to lift a suspension order on Philex Mining Corporation, which stopped operations following a mine tailings accident in August 2012. Demonstrators claim that their community depend on the mining operations for work and livelihood.
