Popular South Indian actor and social activist Captain Raju
(pictured), who has more than 400 films to his credit, will arrive in Doha on Thursday.He will be the chief guest at an event hosted by the Keralite expatriate forum Friends of Thiruvalla (FoT) on Friday.The occasion is a farewell meeting for FoT’s founder member and former vice-president V G Narendran and his wife.The event will be held at Grand Qatar Palace Hotel, near Jaidah Tower, at 7pm.Captain Raju made his debut in 1980 in the Malayalam film Raktham after taking voluntary retirement from the Indian army.In addition to several films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, he has acted in the English film Cotton Mary directed by Ismail Merchant and in the Hindi movie Kashma Kash directed by Priyadarshan.Raju, a director of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, has directed a Malayalam film (Itha Oru Snehagadha) and is directing a second film, titled Pavanayi.In recognition of his social activities, Raju was recently appointed as an ambassador of a campaign against tobacco, liquor and drugs by the Ernakulam District administration in Kerala.
