The first exhibition of oil canvas paintings by Qatari artist Abdulrahman al-Dorani has opened at La Dolce Vita in The Ritz-Carlton, Doha. His artwork depicts various styles, such as a fusion of modern realism with progressive Arabic influence, through landscapes of the village he grew up in and abstracts. Born and raised in Doha, Qatar, al-Dorani had no ambition of becoming a professional artist. After graduating from high school in the 1980s, he studied aviation in the US and electronic engineering in the UK. To him, drawing was purely a gateway for relaxation.“I started drawing at the age of seven, mostly comic book characters like Batman and Superman,” explained al-Dorani while recalling that he has never taken any lesson in drawing or painting. “So technically, I am a self taught artist.”Over the years, al-Dorani has collected over one hundred artworks in his residence, but it has never been shown to the public. This is the first time his talent is displayed outside of his home.
