Qatar’s aluminium industry is eyeing fund houses and investors in a big way in view of the QR1.2bn volume of investment in the manufacturing sector projects. In view of this, Qatar will host a major downstream investment opportunities conference in March this year to showcase the aluminium sector, which has a total production capacity of 260,000 tonnes per year for a variety of products related to the industry.Confirming its sponsorship to the conference, Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), which is the only aluminium smelter in Qatar with a production capacity of over 600,000 tonnes per year of primary aluminium, said it has opened the door to explore real opportunities in this important and vital sector as well as to strengthen the relations between Qatalum and parties from the various manufacturing industries.Gathering the major technology providers and lenders, the conference aims to provide a number of economically viable investment opportunities for the both the private sector and investors of the most important manufacturing industries dependant on Qatar’s basic aluminium industries. While studies affirm the increase of demand on aluminium material for industries related to the automotive industry, electrical wiring, construction materials, and other manufacturing industries with high consumption ratios, Qatalum said it is seeking to open markets within manufacturing industries, especially in the local or neighbouring markets.
