Emir appoints QFMA board of directors

HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has issued the Emiri Decree No 1 of 2013 appointing the Board of Directors of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) as follows: HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud al-Thani, Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor, as chairman; HE Sheikh Fahad bin Faisal al-Thani, QCB Deputy Governor, as vice-chairman; HE Khalaf bin Ahmed al-Mannai, representing the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as member; HE Hamad bin Ahmed al-Mannai, representing the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as member; Michael Ryan, chief executive officer of Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Regulatory Authority, as member; HE Dr Hessa bint Sultan al-Jaber, who has extensive experience working with the Authority, as member; HE Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, who has extensive experience working with the Authority, as member. HH the Emir also issued the Emiri Decree No 2 of 2013 appointing Nasser Ahmed Abdulrahman al-Shaibi as QFMA chief executive officer. The two decrees are to be effective from the date of issue and are to be published in the Official Gazette.  

Emir issuesdecreeHH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has issued the Decree No 5  of 2013 ratifying a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on environmental co-operation between the governments of Qatar and Singapore, which was signed in Doha on March 13, 2012. The MoU shall have the power of law according to the Article 68 of the Constitution. The decree is to be effective from its date of issue and to be published in the Official Gazette.

RatificationdocumentsHH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has issued the following ratification documents:1. Approving a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Co-operation between the Governments of Qatar and Vietnam signed in Hanoi on January 16, 2012. 2. Approving an agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute signed in Rio de Janeiro on June 20, 2012. 3. Approving a draft agreement between the governments of Qatar and Barbados on the Avoidance of Double Taxation & Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on Income, signed in Doha on December 12, 2012.

Farewell receptionAssistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation Affairs, HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Jabor al-Thani, hosted a farewell reception in honour of outgoing Italian Ambassador to Qatar, Andrea Ferrari, Ambassador of Senegal, Adamar Sar; and Ambassador of Chad, Taher Natheef Khater. The function, held the Diplomatic Club, was attended by heads of diplomatic missions and offices accredited to Qatar and a number of senior Foreign Ministry officials.  

Qatar-Philippineslegal ties discussedPresident of the Cassation Court Masoud bin Mohamed al-Amri, who is also chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), yesterday met Crescente R Relacion, Ambassador of the Philippines to Qatar. During the meeting, they discussed aspects of co-operation in legal and judicial areas between the judicial authorities in the two countries and means of boosting them.
