Expo showcases high quality local industries
Qatar Steel is a major participant and “sector sponsor” at the ‘Made in Qatar’ exhibition, which was inaugurated here yesterday. The event will be held at the Doha Exhibition Centre until tomorrow. The three-day event is organised by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Industry. The sponsorship agreement was signed between QCCI and Qatar Steel last December. Qatar Steel is widely recognised as one of the leading companies in the steel industry, and was established in 1974 as the first integrated steel plant in the Gulf. The commercial production began in 1978 with the company becoming wholly owned by Industries Qatar (IQ) in 2003. Its plant facilities are located in Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC). Qatar Steel director and general manager Ali bin Hasan al-Muraikhi expressed delight at his company sponsoring Made in Qatar Expo, and said Qatar Steel’s participation in the exhibition along with other local industrial companies presents a good image of Qatari industries, and highlights its outstanding role in supporting the country’s economy and contributes to its comprehensive development. “Made in Qatar Expo is a significant initiative that gives the chance to showcase the country’s high quality industries and products, and it can attract and boost investment prospects in local industry, which is one of the most vital sectors that diversifies the national income, creating new job opportunities, and replacing imported products by a local ones. The responsibility of achieving sustainable development should be shouldered by both public and private sectors, and they both should enhance their mutual co-operation in this respect,” al-Muraikhi added. Qatar Steel Commercial Division manager Ahmed Abdul Aziz al-Ansari said: “Qatar Steel is constantly striving to achieve its mission to keep up its competitive position in the Gulf region. We will continue our efforts to develop the steel industry for the optimum utilisation of our potential and resources to attain profitable growth, operational and organisational excellence, and serve the community within our corporate social responsibility.”
