Qtel asks organisations to sponsor athletes for charity
Qtel has asked all organisations operating in the country to sponsor athletes to take part in a marathon the telecommunication company plans to hold later this month to raise money for charities working across the globe. Teams from business houses, universities and athletic clubs are encouraged to wear their own branded running outfits to the races that start at 7am on January 27, said a statement issued by the Qtel yesterday. Already, some of Qatar’s leading businesses have signed up to take part and would fly the flag for their organisations in one of the most exciting athletic events of the year. Adults can participate in a Half-Marathon (21.1km) or a 10K Run and young people under 18 can sign up for the 1K Youth Run. The competition is open to people of all levels of experience and fitness levels with the emphasis placed on the healthy lifestyle benefits for all. All entry fees, QR50 per participant, will be donated to charities in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. By participating in the Qtel Marathon, organisations can help build team spirit and bring an increased focus on athletics and a culture of charitable kindness while communicating the brand to a wider audience. Qtel recently named Doha resident Chris Arthey to wear the “Number One” bib for the Qtel Marathon. Since 2008, Arthey has inspired athletes of all ages by running in marathons with a prosthetic leg.
