Wakrah hospital ‘making a difference’

Al Wakra Hospital, the newest member of Hamad Medical Corporation’s network of eight hospitals, is already making a real difference to the community it serves. Officially opened on December 31, 2012, the hospital’s fully equipped surgery department has already carried out 67 operations. The surgeries cover a range of disciplines, including general surgery, orthopaedic, dental and urology. Since opening its doors to the community, the hospital has already seen 38 babies delivered by its maternity unit. “I am proud to say that this hospital is already making a difference to the community of Al Wakrah and surrounding areas,” said Hana al-Soubaie, assistant executive director of Nursing. “This facility has been designed, built and staffed with the changing needs and expectations of the growing community it serves at the very heart of its operation. Al Wakra Hospital provides comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to people of all ages, from emergency care, to general medicine, paediatric and surgery with highly specialised treatments,” added al-Soubaie. “With a staff of nearly 3,000 including more than 200 doctors and  1,065 nurses, the new six-storey hospital houses emergency departments for adults, children and maternity as well as 210 beds (with a flexible capacity of a further 50 beds) and 86 critical care and observation beds.” The diagnostic imaging department is equipped with MRI and CT scanners.
