PM, BJP leaders greet  Vajpayee on birthday

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders yesterday greeted ailing former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on his 88th birthday. The prime minister was among the first to reach Vajpayee house in central Delhi. BJP leaders L K Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan too greeted the former prime minister. The BJP organised a blood donation camp at the Talkotara Stadium in New Delhi to mark the occasion. Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924, in the erstwhile princely state of Gwalior, now in Madhya Pradesh.

 

Man held for allegedly raping 5-year-old girl

Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl at Madhapur, the information technology district in Hyderabad. The 21-year-old suspect was arrested after the father of the victim lodged a complaint with the police. Both the accused and the victim are from Nepal and working in Hyderabad. Dhanu Shree, a cook in a restaurant, sexually assaulted the daughter of his neighbour Padam Bahadur, who was working as a security guard at Raheja IT Park. According to the police, the girl was playing near her house when the accused took her to a nearby place and raped her. When her parents returned home, they found her crying. After they lodged a complaint, police sent the girl to hospital for medical examination.

 

Real estate agent held  for cheating in Odisha

A leading real estate agent of Odisha and two of his associates were arrested yesterday for allegedly cheating an investor, police said. Tirupati Panigrahi, founder and chairman of High-Tech group, a business conglomerate that also runs several educational institutes in the state, was arrested by the Odisha police. According to the investor, a few years ago he had paid over Rs100,000 in installments to a company run by Panigrahi on the assurance that he would get homestead land on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Instead, Panigrahi and his associates allegedly threatened the investor, Additional Director General of Police B K. Sharma told reporters.

 

Katrina most ideal  wife for Salman: survey

Actress Katrina Kaif has topped the list of perfect matches for Bollywood’s famous bachelor, and her former beau, Salman Khan, according to a survey by a matrimonial site. The survey by shaadi.com covered 21,000 respondents, and 69.84% believed that Kaif, 28, would make an ideal wife for Khan, 47. Another interesting survey around the Dabangg star reveals that 62% of Indian men don’t want the actor to get married at all while 60.37% women want him to settle down as soon as possible. In the survey, several fans from the south would like to see Khan’s Dabangg co-star Sonakshi Sinha as his off-screen life partner too while north Indians won’t mind seeing southern actress Asin as his better half in real life.

 

One dies as picnickers attack hotel staff

Enraged at the delay in serving food at a hotel in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, a group of tourists from Odisha attacked the hotel staff, killing one of them and injuring four. Thirty-five people have been arrested, police said yesterday. “The tourists who had come on a picnic in Belda, attacked the hotel staff following a heated argument late Monday night. Anil Kar was killed in the fight while three others have been hospitalised with serious injuries,” a police officer said. “We have arrested 35 people from the picnic party. The body of the victim has been sent for postmortem,” the officer said. The incident happened at Belda, which is 160km from Kolkata.
