Mowasalat chairman and Managing Director Jassim Saif al-Sulaiti was honoured on Sunday at the UITP Mena Congress in Abu Dhabi for his contribution “to putting in place an efficient public transport service in Qatar”.The 1st UITP Taxi Conference is also being held along with the conference. The Belgium-headquartered UITP is a widely acclaimed forum in the international public transport sector Mowasalat, the national transport company of Qatar is actively working with the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi and UITP to chalk out a strategic regional transportation plan. Eleven delegates from Mowasalat are attending the conference.Al-Sulaiti was honoured with the 8G Strategy award as a key person for his contribution to the public transport industry and his efforts in aligning Mowasalat’s vision “to be world-leading as measured by providing the first solution oriented, customer driven, community aware and environment-friendly transport company”, said a spokesperson for Mowasalat.The 8G awards are a derivation of the Mena Global Award at the 2011 UITP Congress held in Dubai. The awards are modelled on 8-generational strategies, which form the building blocks for delivering world-class public transport systems to meet the transportation needs of future generations of the MENA Region.These strategies are aligned with the UITP’s vision of doubling the share of public transport share by 2025.The conference attracted more than 600 delegates, including 60 international experts. Over 400 transport-related organisations’ representatives and experts are also attending the sessions. It is the largest public transport event in the region. Professionals from the MENA region and beyond have turned up to share their knowledge and experiences.The latest edition of the congress assumes added significance because of the focus on taxis, which play a major role in the public transport supply chain in the MENA region.
