Afghan security forces burn confiscated illegal opium or raw heroine in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, yesterday. A report released by the the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in November 2012 said that the Afghans increased the size of their poppy fields by 18% last year, as high opium prices continued to make the crop attractive. Most of the illegal crop was grown in southern and western provinces, where insecurity and organised crime run high.
