The exquisite Japanese restaurant Megu at The Pearl-Qatar recently held a charity sushi class by Megu’s chef Hiro, in addition to a range of Japanese cultural activities to culminate the year-long Qatar Japan 2012, marking  40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Around 25 participants including members of the media and a number of Japanese dignitaries took part in the event, which was supported by partners comprising Reach Out to Asia, iLoveQatar.net, Qatar Happening Magazine and Doha TweetUps. The programme for the day included a sushi making tutorial covering the history of sushi, an overview of needed equipments and tips on the best place to buy fresh fish. Participants and the audience were also treated to a series of Japanese cultural events including a showcase of traditional flower arrangements, Japanese food tasting and tea ceremony and finally a performance by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. “We are very pleased to have been chosen by Qatar Japan 2012 to host this cultural event,” Megu’s Outlet manager Ouahid Ouassaidi said, adding: “As a fine dining Japanese restaurant established in Qatar, we embrace our ambassadorship to convey both the authenticity of Japanese gastronomy as well as Qatari hospitality. Each class participants walked out of the event with a sushi making kit as well as souvenir gifts from Qatar Japan 2012, in addition to prizes for the top three students. Megu will donate proceeds to the Tohaku earthquake and tsunami victims, in demonstration of its support and sympathy from Qatar and Japanese businesses.
