Qatar, Kenya sign manpower pact

An agreement was signed between Qatar and Kenya yesterday to regulate the employment of Kenyan manpower in Qatar.The Minister of Social Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour HE Nasser bin Abdullah al-Hemaidi and Kenya’s Labour Minister John Munyes were the signatories.Qatar is expected to employ more Kenyans, especially in the hospitality and airline industries.The agreement states that the two parties shall establish a joint committee composed of not more than three members from each side to co-ordinate the implementation of the agreement.Qatar’s Ministry of Labour shall present to its Kenyan counterpart applications from employers in Qatar for employment of Kenyans.The agreement further states that the recruitment applications shall state the required qualification, experience and specialisation, the probable duration of the contract, conditions of the employment – especially wages, end of service gratuity, probationary period – and facilities regarding transportation and accommodation as well as all basic information that may enable the workers to decide on the signing the employment contract.The employment contract shall also be issued in Arabic and English in three original copies, one each to be kept by the employer, the worker, and the third one to be deposited at the Ministry of Labour in Qatar.
