The Ritz-Carlton, Doha recently brought together a team of ladies and gentlemen to the Sealine beach to clean up the public area. The staff from various departments at the hotel took on the beach for three hours, carpet-searching and picking up trash left behind or washed on to the beach. Trash such as plastic bottles, bags, glasses, nails and even mats were found lying throughout the beach. By the end of the day, the team scavenged over 350kg of trash. Ritz-Carlton Human Resources director Avinash Menon commented: “We chose this beach because it is the most popular public beach in Qatar and we want help the municipality, who are also doing a fantastic job maintaining the area, make sure this is a safe and clean beach for individuals and families alike.” The beach clean-up was part of the Community Footprints programme with hotel staff actively taking part in giving back to the community and to the environment through activities such as fundraising, donation, and other volunteer activities. Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company president and COO Hervé Humler said: “Our Community Footprints social and environmental responsibility focus is our legacy – and our future. I am immensely proud of the contributions of our Ladies and Gentlemen to our local communities around the world.” The Ritz-Carlton Doha plans to return to the beach to maintain its cleanliness and hopes to bring other volunteers from the community and hotel guests.
