The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in association with Qatar Petroleum (QP) recently held a security awareness seminar for security officers and PR and HR personnel of the companies working in Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC). The seminar held at Mesaieed Golf Club covered different themes such as general traffic safety and common mistakes, vehicle collision accidents and prevention methods, residence laws for expatriates, community policing and its role in spreading security and Qatar’s customs and traditions. The seminar started with a short film on the gravity of reckless driving and talking on mobile phones while driving, which was followed by a presentation on traffic law no. 19/2007. Colonel Talib al-Adbha from the Traffic Department emphasised the necessity of raising traffic awareness among nationals and expatriates. He also pointed out that the Ministry and the Traffic Department are keen to communicate with the community and to utilise all possible means such as traffic boards, awareness programmes, printed materials and leaflets, websites and mobile phones to spread traffic awareness. Speaking on the role of community policing and its role in securing the nation, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Zayed al-Muhannadi, Head of Community Policing Section at North Security Department, said that the ministry is making efforts on crime prevention, but said negative behaviour have to be checked with more united efforts from the community. He added that the concept of community policing has activated the role of the community in law enforcement. Lt Col Al-Muhannadi also stressed on the importance of conveying Qatari culture to expatriates and encouraging them to respect the customs and traditions of Qatar. A film explaining the procedures of residence stamping for an expatriate starting from his arrival in the country was shown. Lt Abdullah Khalifa al-Muhannadi, Head of Technical Office at General Directorate of Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs presented a lecture on residence law no. 4 /2009 and answered queries from the participants at the end of the session. Bolus Shadad from HSE department at QP also presented a lecture on procedures of general safety. Col Saleh Ali Hassan al-Shahhi, Head of Mesaieed Police Station, honoured Khalid Ali, director of Al Waha Trading and Contracting, for co-operating with the police in tracing two accused responsible for stealing electronic equipment from a company in the location. Ali thanked the ministry for raising awareness and said the multi-cultural community in Qatar should know the laws, customs and traditions of Qatar for their integration in the community. Ghanem al-Kubaisi, Training Supervisor at QP, expressed his happiness in cooperating with the Ministry of Interior in raising security awareness for those working in MIC, while Abdulla Rashid al-Muhannadi, Head of HSE section at QP, stressed the importance of continuing the programmes that started in Ras Laffan last year and which were conducted in Mesaieed this year, and hoped that it will soon be organised in Dukhan.
