Olympus unveils revolutionary camera

Japanese technology giant Olympus showcased cutting-edge technologies during its latest product range unveiling in Doha recently. Organised by Al Sayegh Brothers Trading, the sole distributors of Olympus products in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the event highlighted Olympus’ credentials as the leading technological innovator in the imaging industry with wide-ranging applications.The ground-breaking product on show was the EM-5, the revolutionary mirror-less camera (OM-D), which the Japanese firm and its distributor said will re-define the SLR concept with its ultra compact, light-weight, super efficient capabilities with multiple unique functions. Among the most notable features of OM-D is its “first of its kind” 5-axis image stabilisation system for rock-steady pictures and full HD movies. Introducing the latest range, Dominic Papenheim, head, Direct Export Area of Olympus-Consumer Division, stressed the importance of Qatar in the global expansion plans of Olympus. The very fact that the launch was the very first outside of Japan underlined the strategic importance of Qatar. Quoting previous sales figures, he emphasised the country’s strong position as the fourth in the MENA region in the sale of cameras and accessories.Dominic reiterated Olympus’ resolve to offer ultra-capable devices with premium quality and performance as reflected in its newest series. Starting with the entry level Smart series, Olympus caters to a wide clientele through its powerful compact cameras, up to the professional Creator series. Dominic said Olympus, founded in Tokyo in 1919, has now grown to a 30,000-strong global conglomerate valued at over $10bn, with strong presence in photography, medical and recording sectors. However, the core strength of Olympus has always been optics and imaging that it leverages to produce cutting-edge devices regularly.Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Vigyan Seth, COO, Al Sayegh Brothers Trading, spoke about the long ties they had with Olympus. Primarily a UAE-based enterprise, Al Sayegh Brothers Trading is a renowned name in GCC with multiple divisions currently operating in various sectors as diverse as electronics, fashion and projects. He said the initial plan in Qatar was to build on the present 8% market share up to 10% for the current year.Those present at the launch included Iqbal Hussain, deputy CEO of Al Sayegh Brothers Trading; Fadi Ibrahim, area sales manager (Olympus) for Middle East; Charles Rebeiro, business head, Al Sayegh Brothers Trading besides senior officials of Al Salegh Brothers Qatar.
