Moved by the ongoing crises in some Arab countries and especially the hardships being faced by many children due to the unrest, some six children in Qatar have held a bake sale dubbed “Reach Out to Syria” to raise money to help their peers in Syria. The children aged around seven years comprising four Syrians and their two Palestinian neighbours organised the sale in their compound during which they were able to raise some QR700.“Having got aware of the unrest in the Arab world and how children are being made to suffer, particularly in Syria, my children and their friends came up with the idea of making some pastries and selling them on a bake sale in a bid to help some of the suffering children in Syria,” Hanan, mother of the two Palestinian children said. She explained that to create awareness about the sale, the children made posters announcing the event and pasted them around their compound ahead of the event.“The majority of the people in our compound supported them by patronising the sale. The amount they made is so little but I believe the spirit behind it made it worthwhile,” Hanan said adding that the proceeds will be donated to Syrian children either through Reach Out to Asia or any of the other charitable organisations in Qatar.
