Indian expat group holds special event

Indian expatriate group Doha Goan  Sports Club made their 11-11-11 celebrations a memorable experience for members and families at an event that they held in association with Mercure Grand Hotel.Along with the celebrations, the club members also held an essay writing competitions for the children studying in the country’s schools. Apart from the Goans, several other communities also took part in the competitions. The organisers said as part of their commitment to the community, they chose only “current and relevant issues” as the subject for the essay competition for different age groups.Prizes were announced for three different age groups and each of the categories had three winners. The winners of the Group A are Millika Ravi, Anvita Nithyanand and Anugrah Arun, the winners of the Group B are Sripradha  Sankruthi, C S Vane Swetah and Vikram Kumaresan, and Group C winners are Manoj Thayalan, Fathima Hanan and Satya Rashmit Durugu.Vice-principal of the Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, in Borde (Goa) Aida Borges headed the judging panel. Lorre Jane, a faculty at the Philippine School of Doha assisted her.The winners will be felicitated with trophies and certificates at the Goa Day celebrations tomorrow at the Municipal Hall, Corniche, Goa.The club officials said after successful drawing and essay writing competitions earlier they are planning a series of events aimed at improving the competitive skills of children in the coming months.They also thanked parents for encouraging their children to participate in the events organised by the club. Besides Mercure Grand Hotel, individuals who supported the latest event were Antonio Vaz, Lubino Soares, Mathew Estrocio, Inacio Dias, Carmen and Rosina.
