Pakistan Ambassador Mohamed Sarfaraz Khanzada has called on his community to contribute liberally towards flood relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts necessitated by the heavy rains in Pakistan. He was addressing the Pakistani community in Dukhan during a celebration in connection with the 65th Independence Day.Pakistan Disaster Authority chairman Zafar Iqbal Qadir has already announced that 5.5mn people were affected by the flooding since last one month. Unicef spokesperson Kristen Elsby has earlier announced that 2.7mn children are among those affected.Earlier, Dukhan Integrated Services head Hamad Saleh al-Sulaiti welcomed the envoy. Pakistani community president Dr Tariq Masoud, and other leaders Dr Shaheena Manzur, Abdul Rauf, Mubasher Raza, Azhar Shakeel, Imtiaz Sadiq, Mohamed Ilyas Shahid, Mohamed Rizwan, Mohamed Sufar, Mohamed Zaman Khan, Zafar Shah, Mohamed Ashfaq and Mohamed Waqar Shah were present.Al-Sulaiti appreciated the good turnout for the event. Students Haajra, Fezaan Geelani, and Samara Waheed highlighted the importance of independence and the roles of individuals in the society. Students and community members who excelled in studies and extracurricular activities were presented certificates by the ambassador and al-Sulaiti.Fouzan Jilani, Mohamed Minhal Hussain, Nahan Arif, Dr Shaheen Manzur, Amna Baig, Naeema Akram Khan, Momina Maateen, Hajira Shahid, Sheeza Jilani and Samara Waheed were honoured in this regard. Long-time residents Malik Mukhtar and Javed Hussain were presented with certificates of appreciation. Dr Tariq Masood welcomed and Dr Shaheen Manzur proposed a vote of thanks.
