New DG for Al Jazeera Network

Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani is the new director general (DG) of the Al Jazeera Network.A decision to this effect was made yesterday by chairman of the board of directors of the Jazeera Network Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani.The new director general will take charge from today. With his appointment, Sheikh Ahmed has replaced director general of eight years, Wadah Khanfar.  Sheikh Ahmed, according to a statement, has held different positions since 1995. He served at different levels at Qatargas and became its chief operating officer (engineering and ventures). He also worked at Total in La Defense, Paris, for more than a year.Sheikh Ahmed had an external stint at Mobil Research Center, Meptec in Dallas, Texas, USA as well.Besides being a member of the crucial decision-making body at Qatargas, he also managed more than 247 capital projects for the company, both onshore and offshore.The new director general is currently the chairman of the technical committee of gas processing centre of the Qatar University research centre. Sheikh Ahmed is also a member of the industrial advisory board of the College of Engineering, QU. Sheikh Ahmed, who is a graduate in petroleum engineering,  had his studies in Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, in London, Et Des Moteurs, France and Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.Sheikh Ahmed also completed a leadership programme in Carnegie Mellon Tepper  School of Business, Doha.On his leaving the organisation, Khanfar said he had served for a substantial period of time and the network’s success offered him the opportunity to leave having accomplished the vision that he had set for Al Jazeera to be globally media institution.
