MIS celebrates 12th graduation

Middle East International School (MIS) yesterday celebrated its 12th High School graduation ceremony at its newly-built school premises."The celebration officially marked the end of another memorable school year," said a school representative, adding "this year's graduation in particular, was a day to remember for the graduating class of 2011, as they are the first batch of MIS students to have graduated at the much anticipated new school premises."The ceremony was attended by the school's chairman, Salem Rashid al-Mohanadi, and guest of honour, public affairs officer at the US Embassy, Carolyn Clark.Students entertained guests and family members with a number of performances, and a slideshow depicting events that took place throughout the school year.Grade five valedictorian, Jana Trad gave a speech, followed by student council girl president, Vanessa Fakhoury and valedictorian, Hena Alpona.School principal, Josiha Haig, delivered a motivational speech to the 20 graduating students, and three former students, Syed Zafar Irfan, Malik Habayeb and Ameena Chua attended the ceremony to share their experiences since their own graduation.Valedictorian Hena Alpona also delivered a meaningful speech to her graduating class. Four outstanding students were also selected by the MIS chairman to receive the Rashid Academic Merit scholarship award for the next school year. "MIS, with a student population drawn from almost 35 different nationalities, has had a rewarding year in the field of academics, as well as in social and sporting events," added the spokesperson.
