HMC nursing facility marks year of service

The Interim Skilled Nursing Facility at the Hamad Medical Corporation has marked one year of successfully providing service to its long term patients.The 80-bed facility, which was inaugurated last year at the Medical City caters to patients in need of long term care.It also offers comprehensive patient care for residents, who require medical care and assistance for a very long time.“The facility offers a homely atmosphere for the long term patients. The facility is geared towards extending continued medical care and rehabilitation services for the residents. Families of the patients are also encouraged to be actively involved in the activities of patient care and well being,” Rumailah hospital executive director Judith Don said.During an anniversary ceremony held recently, the facility’s Nursing director Barbara De Fleuriot gave a detailed overview of the growth and expansion of the facility in the last one year. “In May 2010, when the facility was opened we received 18 residents. By October 2010, we had 78 residents and we were fully occupied. We have both Qatari and expatriate residents consisting of both male and female patients,” De Fleuriot said.She stated further that the patients were referred from various hospitals under HMC, Home Care services and from health centres. At the facility, patient care is being provided through an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals including physicians and nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, social workers and dietitians.The anniversary celebration held at medical city hotel included a small video presentation of the workings of the facility since its inception in May 2010. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed to the deserving staff.
