Civil Defence to install fire alarm system

The Civil Defence department has signed a deal for installation of a centralised alarm monitoring system (CAMS) which would help provide rapid response to fire by detecting blazes through thermal signals.The Civil Defence (CD), under the Interior Ministry, signed the deal with Consolidated Gulf Co., it was announced at a press conference yesterday. The agreement was reached in 2008.CD’s director of protection management, Brigadier Aman al-Sulaiti, said the system was the latest in the safety field. He said the ministry’s central operations room would react quickly to fire cases “without the need for someone informing us about it”.“We should use the technological development to minimise the damage,” the officer said.Captain Hussein Aman al-Ali, of the CD’s awareness department, said the department relied only on information from the companies or house owners.He explained that the new system would allow the department to know about the occurrence of a fire within seconds once it receives thermo signals that operates the alarm machine. Captain al-Ali said the system gave very accurate information about the location of the fire through maps. Anil Mahajan, head of business development at Consolidated Gulf Company, said the system would be ready to deal with fires round-the-clock.The company, he said, would provide maintenance services to tackle any possible defects in the system.Mahajan said the system would be ready for usage in companies, hotels, banks, shopping malls, recreation centres and houses.
