The event, which began on Monday is concluding tomorrow. QUWIC had participated last year also.
QUWIC is represented by executive director Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya and head of business development Omar Bondogji.
The participation aims at interacting with world’s leading companies in the field of wireless technology and services, as well as showcasing QUWIC’s latest innovations, applied research and customised solutions development.
"As a leading solutions provider in the wireless ecosystem in Qatar and the region, QUWIC is keen on participating in international gatherings, where we exchange knowledge and experience with other leading organisations in the industry and showcase Qatari-made innovations targeting local and regional markets,” Dr Abu-Dayya said.
This year’s participation focused on showcasing several innovative solutions which are under development by QUWIC. In order to do that, QUWIC has designed live demonstration stations of some of its projects and initiatives within the Qtel pavilion in Barcelona.
These include a demonstration of the Intelligent Traffic Monitoring System (ITMS) Solution and its applications, of which, QUWIC has completed the first phase of development, and is undertaking a field trial at the moment with partners in Qatar. The ITMS solution represents an asset to Qatar as it provides, for the first time in the country, real time and historic traffic information, which is used to develop innovative applications targeting consumers, enterprises and government agencies.
The solution represents a significant step towards realising intelligent transportation systems in Qatar and it includes a number of applications such as traffic monitoring, trip planning, fleet management, and others which are aimed at providing useful assistance to drivers and transportation authorities and planners in Qatar.
Another demonstration station, highlights the air quality monitoring system which is under development by QUWIC with the objectives of providing real time and location-based information on air quality to different authorities and users through a number of user-friendly applications.
At the third demonstration, QUWIC showcased a number of mobile applications created for the users in Qatar and the region, as a part of the first Mobile Applications Development Programme launched by QUWIC.
Towards that end, QUWIC is working with strategic partners to create a comprehensive eco-system for mobile applications development in Qatar and the MENA region to deliver locally and regionally relevant applications.
Bondogji stated that the visitors’ interaction and response to QUWIC’s innovations is very encouraging.
"We at QUWIC believe in and promote the exchange of knowledge and experience, and being in Barcelona is a great opportunity for us to be exposed to the global mobile industry and to demonstrate Qatar’s emerging leadership in this area,” he said.
Dr Abu-Dayya took part in a panel discussion on mobile application ecosystem and QUWIC’s role in developing and promoting regionally-relevant content.
In his presentation, Dr Abu-Dayya explained the unique value proposition of QUWIC as the first institution in the Arab world focused on using wireless technologies to deliver market-minded solutions and applications in diverse market segments.
