The truck is purpose-built for heavy transport in demanding road conditions.
"Volvo worldwide has the most comprehensive product offering in the construction sector and also has extensive experience in meeting customer needs in every area of the industry,” Domasco general manager Madan Manjeshwar said.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a live demonstration of Volvo FMX trucks and an excavator performing construction site tasks at the Qatar Primary Materials Company yard at Lusail. "We have set an achievable target of a 10% market share this year and will be striving to further boost our after-sales services,” he said.
Domasco’s Volvo Trucks sales and marketing manager Amjad Juma said the response from the construction sector is encouraging as the Volvo FMX is purpose-built for the demands of the industry. The high-clearance Volvo FMX has a new upper grill, aggressive lower front, three-part steel bumper with 3mm thick steel corners, rugged skid plate and protective bull bar designed for demanding road conditions.
The Volvo FMX also features a powerful tow hook, headlamp mesh protection, new anti-slip steps and a convenient ladder.
The Volvo FMX is based on the FM platform, which has proved itself in demanding applications around the world. It also provides exceptional driveline performance based on the power and efficiency of the 11-litre engine (330 to 450hp) or the 13-litre engine (380 to 500hp).
The new load sensor provides weight load information to the updated on-off road version of the I-Shift gearbox for an optimised gear sequence and smooth start.
The updated construction version of the I-Shift gearbox allows to "rock free” from almost any situation. The truck also has massive braking power, 375 kW at 2300rpm provided by Volvo Engine Brake Plus.
The heavy-duty engine protection helps protect vital components and the new rugged steel fuel tanks have been raised for higher clearance.
In addition, a new higher air intake position on the day cab is available as an option that optimises the quality of the air to the engine, while also improving visibility when reversing.
Preparation kits and mounting options for working lights and reverse lights are also available.
Three new interior accessories, a table with dedicated space for cups and pens, a practical storage box and a paper holder in water resistant fabric enhances driver comfort.
"We are confident about the Qatar market as our after-sales service is excellent and is constantly improving to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Colm Haughey, service manager, Volvo Truck & Bus, Domasco.
"The Volvo FMX has helped us close the gap on our competitors and will complement our strong presence in other sectors,” said Johan Kohler, regional manager, Middle East, Volvo Truck Corporation.
