Assistant pastry chef Khaled Rashwan assisted the little chefs with this fun activity while creating fruit tarts and sweets, and giving tips on how to create the perfect cookie.
"To be able to make a difference in someone’s life is certainly a rewarding experience but to be able to affect a child’s entire future is something else altogether,” Rashwan said.
"We are very honoured to be able to provide skill building opportunities to these young kids and to support the Shafallah Center with their great work,” he said.
"Shafallah” is the Arabic name for the delicate pink flower of the caper plant, a small shrub native to Qatar. The Shafallah Center provides special education, physical therapy and family support services for children.
It helps children with autism, learning disabilities as well as mental and physical disabilities to reach their full potential.
Since 2009, the staff of the Ritz-Carlton have been closely associated with the Shafallah Center and have been actively volunteering under Community Footprints, the hotel’s social and environmental responsibility programme. The essence of the Community Footprints programme is to encourage and support the staff of the Ritz-Carlton to participate in community initiatives through philanthropy, volunteerism, education and environmental preservation.
