School holds refresher course for teachers

The Ideal Indian School conducted a three-day refresher course for teachers. The orientation programme which started on December 27 provided a platform for the teachers to interact and to learn about the latest developments in educational technology, and the changes in the curriculum, a school spokesman said.
Principal Mohammed Aejaz gave a presentation on self-discipline, and spoke about the five pillars of discipline - "A WHIP” (acceptance, willpower, hard work, industry and persistence). He said it was only with self-discipline that can one have command over oneself.
Another presentation was on "the misconception of Multiple Choice Questions among students and teachers” through video clippings of firsthand experience which was both activity-based and an eye-opener to the teachers.
"It is important for teachers to make the concepts clear to the students,” he said.
Manian Narayanan gave a presentation on "life is a miracle”. He referred to the four IFs that make life worthwhile - ‘if you learn’, ‘if you try’, ‘if you stay’ and ‘if you care’. "It is important to believe in yourself to have a miraculous life by creating your own action and pursue them with persistence to achieve your goals,” he said.
Dr Abraham Kollamana spoke on "lifestyle diseases” and gave tips for a healthy living. He spoke about the causes of major diseases like hypertension, diabetes and allergy.
Vice Principal Leelamma Joseph spoke on compatibility of blood groups.
The head of departments and senior teachers gave presentations on various topics like "the art of listening, Artificial Intelligence, how to develop a website, adolescent management, class room management, and why mathematics is so hard.”
Interactive sessions on writing skills, problems and learning difficulties of weak students, the importance of ghazal in Urdu teaching, fitness evaluation for students, portrait making and model classes were also conducted.
The co-ordinator was Padma Ramaswamy who welcomed the gathering.
