Aspire Academy’s Abdulla al-Tamimi finished third in the Pioneer Junior Open Cup in Cologne, while others from Qatar also continued to impress during their European summer tour. They took part in the Italian Junior open in Reccione, the Pioneer Junior Cup before arriving Amsterdam to take part in the Dutch Junior Open. Another Aspire Academy student athlete, Azlan Amjad, also did well in Cologne to finish in 14th place in the U/17 event, while Umair Zaman and Sadam Mehawesh both managed to qualify for the main draw of the U17 event and went on to win four and three matches respectively.Aspire Academy squash head coach, Australian Geoff Hunt said: “Abdulla al-Tamimi has never made the semi-finals before but this time he managed to finish in third place in the U/19 event only losing one match overall and that was to the English winner and number one seed Tom Ford.“This was an extremely pleasing result for Abdulla especially having just graduated from the Academy. He played some exciting squash during the tournament and rebounded well after his semi-final loss to beat the Belgium number one in convincing fashion the next day in the play off for 3/4. “Overall the boys are gaining a good experience in Europe.”
