Yousef Bentaher trained Amico Mio finally came good with a smashing victory in the Khor Al Adaid Cup, the main event of the 36th day’s races at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club yesterday. Amico Mio had finished second to Joshua Tree in the International Cup and later was a close second to Lancelot in the Emir’s Trophy in March.Joshua Tree hit the front as the 13-horse field was dispatched from the gates. French jockey David Badel preferred to wait with Amico Mio but was on the haunches of the front runner. Joshua Tree came into the straight with a slender lead but was soon overhauled by Amico Mio who came with a ground devouring run on the outside. Once assuming command, the Yousef trainee stretched away in fine style to win by three lengths. Al Naif Stud general manager Rashid al-Malki was elated with the performance of Amico Mio. “This was a brilliant performance by Amico Mio. We always knew that he had the potential to be the best Thoroughbred in Qatar and he has proved that beyond doubt today. He ran spome great races earlier but was unlucky to finish second in the earlier two classics,” Rashid told the Gulf Times.

I feel he is the best Thoroughbred to have races here in Qatar.”The trainer and jockey combination of Jassim al-Ghazali and Yanis Auoabed hogged the day’s limelight with a treble. Maseratti, Samhan and Al Muthanna provided the duo with the treble.
