A woman holds her brother, suffering from diarrhoea, at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease & Research (ICDDRB), in Dhaka yesterday. More than 5,500 patients, mostly children, have been registered at the centre in the past week. Most of the patients come from the city suburbs but many more are left virtually without treatment in the countryside, doctors of ICDDRB said. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 68,636 diarrhoeal cases in 15 districts from January 1 to April 2, this year.
