By Mizan RahmanDhakaOfficials at Dhaka central jail yesterday said they had received a medical report that detained war crime suspect Ghulam Azam did not need hospitalisation and were now awaiting his release order to bring him back to the jail from the hospital.“We have received a letter from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s (BSMMU) that Azam does not need to be kept there, but we now await a release order to bring him back to Dhaka Central Jail from hospital,” Inspector General (prison) Md Ashraful Islam Khan said.Azam was taken to hospital on January 11 after former Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s lawyers said that he was suffering from several complications and needed immediate medical attention.The development came as the doctors of BSMMU thoroughly examined his health condition during the past several days.Azam is still at BSMMU hospital under police custody as the medical board has not yet decided on some tests to be done on him.“He (Ghulam Azam) has been referred to the orthopaedics department following pain in his waist. He also has stones in the urinary bladder,” Dr A B M Abdullah, chief of the medical board formed for Azam, told newsmen yesterday.Doctors said the 89-year old war crimes suspect might need an MRI.BSMMU hospital chief Brigadier General Mohammad Abdul Majid Bhuiyan on Thursday told newsmen, quoting the medical board, that Azam did not need hospitalisation.On Sunday, he said: “The patient’s condition can change anytime.”The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will frame charges against Azam on February 15.He was hospitalised within hours of the war crimes tribunal refusing him bail and sending him to jail last week.
