By Mizan RahmanDhakaA convoy carrying opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and workers from Gangni to Kushtia district for joining the road march being led by Khaleda Zia, came under attack yesterday from activists of ruling Awami League’s student and youth fronts Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) and Jubo League.Meherpur district BNP president Amjad MP said Awami League activists threw brickbats at the convoy at Gangni Bazaar and vandalised two buses leaving at least five BNP workers injured. Movement of vehicular traffic was suspended on the highway for a couple of hours after the incident. The ruling party activists also intercepted public transports carrying BNP supporters for joining the road march.Refuting the allegation, local Awami League leader and Gangni municipality mayor Ahmed Ali said BNP activists threw brickbats at BCL activists.Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia began her third road march, starting for south-western port city of Khulna to gain public support for reinstatement of the caretaker government system, which has been scrapped by the government.The convoy of the BNP chief began its journey from Uttara Model Town area yesterday morning, as she is also seeking reinforcement for her anti-government movement.On her way to Khulna, Zia addressed a street rally at Dashuria in Pabna. In the afternoon, she addressed a rally at the Kushtia stadium. On her way to Jessore, she spoke at a street rally in Jhenidah.The opposition leader is scheduled to stay overnight in Jessore and will address a rally today.She will then march towards Khulna and will address a four-party alliance rally at Khulna Circuit House ground.Last month, the BNP and its political allies held road marches in Sylhet and Chapainawabganj demanding that a non-political caretaker government oversee the next elections in 2013.The coalition government led by BNP’s arch-rival Awami League scrapped the system on June 30 by bringing an amendment to the constitution.
