New hospice for disabled soldiers

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse opened the hospice which cost over $10mn and can accommodate some 55 quadriplegics, and include residential facilities for visiting family members. Nearly 30,000 government troops were injured and 6,200 killed during the last three years of Sri Lanka’s 37-year war with the separatist Tamil Tigers that ended in May 2009. Among those injured, many lost limbs, eyes or their hearing, and more than 300 troops were left with severe paralysis.
