Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim inspires Qatar Foundation students
Tariq Bin Ziad School, part of Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education (PUE), welcomed Qatari Olympic champion, Mutaz Barshim for an interactive session with middle school students, during which he shared key milestones from his sporting career and his achievements on the international stage.
Barshim also answered students’ questions and shared personal experiences and lessons learned throughout his journey, highlighting the importance of perseverance, discipline, and teamwork in achieving goals, as well as the role of sports in fostering friendship, mutual respect, and sportsmanship.
The visit also highlighted the educational and human values reflected in Barshim’s journey, which are explored in the illustrated children’s book ‘Winning Beyond Gold’, published by Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press. Inspired by the historic moment when Barshim shared the gold medal in the high jump event at the Tokyo Olympic Games, the book explores the meaning of winning beyond individual achievement, emphasising the values of friendship and sportsmanship.
The session concluded with a book-signing event, reflecting QF’s commitment to providing learning experiences beyond the classroom that support students’ personal development, encourage them to discover their talents, and inspire them to pursue their aspirations.
