QIB named ‘Safest Islamic Bank in Qatar’, 3rd in GCC by Global Finance
Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) has been recognised as the ‘Safest Islamic Bank in Qatar’, ranking 3rd among Islamic financial institutions in the GCC in Global Finance’s World’s Safest Banks 2026 rankings.
The recognition reinforces QIB’s position as one of the region’s leading Islamic banks and reflects its strong financial position, prudent risk management practices, and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of financial stability.
The recognition forms part of Global Finance’s 35th annual World’s Safest Banks rankings, which assess the financial strength and stability of leading banking institutions worldwide. The rankings are based on an evaluation of long-term foreign currency credit ratings assigned by major international rating agencies.
QIB’s continued recognition reflects the strength of its financial fundamentals, disciplined approach to risk management, and ability to maintain a resilient business model amid evolving market conditions.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, QIB reported a net profit of QR3.53bn, representing a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Total assets reached QR235.5bn, while customer deposits stood at QR145bn.
The bank maintained a strong capital adequacy ratio of 23.6% and a cost-to-income ratio of 16.2%, the best in the Qatari banking sector, reflecting its financial strength and operational efficiency.
Bassel Gamal, QIB Group CEO, said: "We are pleased to be recognised by Global Finance as the Safest Islamic Bank in Qatar and among the top three Islamic financial institutions in the GCC.
"This recognition reflects the strength of our bank’s financial position, our prudent risk management practices, and the trust placed in us by our customers and stakeholders. We remain committed to maintaining a resilient banking model, delivering innovative Shari’a-compliant solutions, and supporting Qatar’s economic growth.”
Global Finance’s assessment of the safest Islamic banks acknowledges institutions committed to advancing Shariah-compliant banking models, influencing adjustments in rankings for 2026.
QIB’s financial position is also supported by strong credit ratings from leading international agencies. In September 2026, Fitch Ratings affirmed the bank’s credit rating at 'A', while Moody’s affirmed its long-term deposit rating at 'A1' with a stable outlook in June 2026. Capital Intelligence Ratings also affirmed QIB’s long-term rating at 'AA-' with a stable outlook in March 2026.
